What we plan to do with the city's waste

The government has set all councils strict targets to recycle more rubbish. We aim to meet, and do better than, these targets for recycling and reducing rubbish. We will follow and support the Government's National Waste Strategy. You can find out more about the strategy within the Recycling and Waste area of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' website.

How will this work?

We use the following table to plan how it deals with waste. We aim to push as much waste towards the methods at the top of the list as possible:

  • Reduction
  • Re-use
  • Recovery (Recycling, Composting, Energy)
  • Disposal
