Complaints about food and food businesses

Whilst officers are visiting businesses in the city on a daily basis, we rely upon members of the public contacting us if they see anything in a food business which they feel would make the food unsafe. Whether it is the cleanliness of the business, the hygiene of the staff or the way food is being handled and stored. We visit all the premises that people tell us about and take whatever action is necessary to ensure the safety of food. Your name and address will be kept confidential if you wish.

Concerns about a food business

If you observe conditions at a food business that you are concerned about you can contact the food safety team using the contact details on the right of this page. We will need to take your name and contact details as we do not respond to anonymous complaints. Your details will not be released to the party you are complaining of but we will contact you to let you know what action has been taken.

Concerns about food

Our foreign objects in food advice leaflet carries information in relation to the more commonly encountered problems. If you have any other concerns and you have purchased the food in Coventry then contact the food safety team direct at the address below.

In order to investigate the complaint thoroughly we will normally require

  • the food
  • foreign object (or item for concern),
  • the product packaging along with a receipt if possible.

If you discover the item some time before you can contact us, it's important that you try to keep the food in the exact condition in which it was found - this may mean wrapping the food up and keeping it either in the fridge or freezer.
