Safeguarding adults

What does safeguarding mean?

Safeguarding means protecting vulnerable adults from abuse or neglect and putting systems in place to prevent abuse or neglect from happening in the future.

Who do we safeguard?

Safeguarding vulnerable adults is everyone's business. We all have a duty to report concerns if we think someone is being abused or neglected.

Government guidance called 'No Secrets' (2000) provides a definition of a vulnerable adult as someone who is or may be in need of community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age or illness; and
page 8 - Section 2 who is or may be unable to take care of him or herself, or unable to protect him or herself against significant harm or exploitation.

To report a concern or suspicion, call 024 7683 3800
