Learn to play the sax
Friday 2 September 2011
Local people will have the chance to learn to play the saxophone in Coventry starting next month. The classes are part of an exciting programme of adult education courses on offer across the city.
Ian Neal, manager at Coventry Council Adult Education Service, said: "Our saxophone course is one of our great successes. It's an excellent opportunity to learn the instrument in a friendly setting and the course is taught by a highly skilled tutor who has experience of performing and teaching saxophone. People really enjoy learning with him and they make great progress!
"Those joining the classes can learn either alto or tenor in the same class. An alto sax is smaller with a higher range and is cheaper to buy. It's a great instrument to start on and once you've got to grips with it, you'll be able to play soprano, tenor or baritone."
Anyone interested in joining a saxophone course can hire a saxophone from a shop rather than buy one outright. Information can be given about saxophone hire, which is less costly than people might think and it also allows newcomers to try it out before deciding whether to continue long term.
Beginners' courses will start in early September, in several venues across the city.
Monday nights: 7pm to 9pm at Finham Park School
Tuesday evenings: 4pm to 6pm at Eburne Neighbourhood Learning Centre.
Wednesday nights: 7pm to 9pm Coundon Court School hosts an improvers' course.
