Two local charities have also been named as Coventry Half Marathon charity partners, with The Myton Hospices and Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice both coming on board for the 2017 event.
To register for the event, which will take place in the city on Sunday 19 March, go to www.coventryhalf.com to guarantee your place on the starting line in Coventry city centre.
The Council decided to host and manage the 2017 event following the withdrawal of the previous event organisers which demonstrated the Council’s own commitment and desire to make sure the half marathon continued to be a key part of the city’s events calendar.
Councillor George Duggins, Leader, Coventry City Council, said:
“Once we heard that the event maybe in doubt for 2017, we made the decision to commit a budget and resources to ensure the event could be staged again in March. We’re aware of how many people look forward to not only taking part in the race itself, but the whole community who comes out in support of the day, completely aware that many runners are raising thousands of pounds for great local charities, including The Myton Hospices and Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, which I’m pleased to see will be the case again this year.
“We want people to come out and support the event in whatever way they can, be it taking part in the main race or the schools’ mile, cheering runners along the route or sponsoring the day and runners. I’m confident that, once again, Coventry will deliver a great event.”
The event will also generate support and profile for both the local charities announced today as charity partners. As with previous half marathons, charities do benefit by being engaged an event partner both from the monies raised through donations and also through the profile raised by being part of such a big local event.
Beccy Richards, Challenge Event Coordinator for The Myton Hospices said:
“We were so thrilled to hear that The Myton Hospices will be a part of the Coventry Half Marathon again in 2017. Over the last two years, this event has helped us raise over £55,000! Each year we have to raise over £8million to continue providing our care. We can’t do it without our generous supporters and that is why we are inviting anyone interested in taking part in this year’s half marathon to do so in support of The Myton Hospices.”

Michael McCann, Fundraising Manager for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, added:
“We’re delighted that Zoë’s Place will once again be a partner of this prestigious event for the city. We hope lots of people take the opportunity to join our team and raise money to help us meet our charitable objectives.”
