Ethics Committee code of conduct decision

Published Wednesday, 21 December 2016

A report to the Ethics Committee was considered on Friday 9 December, as a result of Cllr Glenn Williams’ failure to comply with the Council’s Code of Conduct.

Read the decision notice of the Ethics Committee.

In the case of Cllr Glenn Williams the Acting Monitoring Officer did not receive a complaint about the councillor but it was nevertheless considered appropriate to carry out an investigation. It was concluded that some of Cllr Williams’ comments to the media, regarding a private exchange on social media, amounted to a breach of the code of conduct.

The Ethics Committee has a complaints protocol set up in August 2012 for use when dealing with complaints about councillors under its code of conduct.

The Council has a statutory duty to promote and maintain high standards of conduct by Elected Members.
