In our new Need for Speed STEM workshop, specially designed for upper Key Stage 2 and lower Key Stage 3, pupils will learn about British attempts to break the Land Speed Record and go supersonic.
After meeting the amazing real-life cars that broke the record in 1983 and 1997, pupils investigate speed - how it is measured and how it can be calculated. Using these principles pupils work in teams to design, test and modify their own K’NEX balloon cars, just like the gigantic life size Bloodhound K’NEX model in our Supersonic gallery.
One day double-length workshop (2.5 hours) between 10:30 - 12:00 and 12:30 - 13:30 and costs £5 per pupil.
A limited number of travel bursaries of up to £200 are also available (subject to funding and on a first come, first served basis).
It is possible to extend your visit to include our 4D Land Speed Simulator, where pupils experience what it feel like to travel at more than 700mph! (free of charge when taking part in a workshop, where seats are available and time allows).
