Grace Haynes, will be speaking at the Local Gov Strategy Forum in Oxfordshire in May.

Topics covered over the event will include: Leadership, Digital transformation, ICT Shared Services, Smart city, Integration of Health and Social Care, Culture Change, Customer Service Excellence and Devolution.

Grace will speak on the Council’s Aspiring Leaders Programme and she will be accompanied by one of the Aspiring Leaders, Nicola Leslie.

She said: “It’s an honour for Coventry to be invited to speak at a national event such as this and I will be delighted to tell everyone about the success of our Aspiring Leaders Programme

“It has really unearthed some great talent and given people the chance to shine. We wanted to find people with potential and help fulfil that potential and develop their careers.

“It has helped the Council and helped many people who would not otherwise have had the chance to have their voice heard.

“With budget constraints and recruitment freezes it gave us the perfect opportunity to grow our own talent and with the people we had on the scheme, the support they were given and the results, I’m not surprised it has gained national attention.”

Aspiring Leaders was designed to help people take the next step in their career, aimed at those in grade 5-7 roles who want to become senior leaders of the future. Around 250 people applied for the 30 positions.

As part of the programme, they were paired with a mentor in the Council and an outside organisation where they worked on a project and they also gave presentations to senior officers and members.

The programme was recently in the spotlight when Aspiring Leader Ceri Brettle joined Chief Executive Martin Reeves to speak at the Local Government Association (LGA) annual staff conference in London on the challenges facing local government and the innovative ways in which councils are rising to those challenges.
