Workshops for Key Stages 1 and 2 and Early History CPD Event for Teachers at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.
Workshops for Key Stages 1 and 2
75 minute facilitated session
£3 per pupil
Available 3-25 July and 5-22 Sept
Visit the Herbert’s special Viking exhibition and learn how the invaders from across the sea settled in England. Pupils can try on replica clothing and armour and see a real Viking skeleton! The workshop will explore Norse tales (sagas), and pupils will find out about the adventures of Lady Godiva’s son Aelfgar who enlisted a fleet of Vikings to go into battle. Pupils will also have the opportunity to design and craft their own Viking coin to take away.
This session is ideal for KS2 History studies of the Vikings. It can also support KS1 History, studying events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally and studying the lives of significant individuals in the past.
Bring the same pupils for two learning sessions, either at the Herbert and/or Coventry Transport Museum and claim a travel bursary of up to £200 (Available to schools including pupils from areas of high deprivation, on a first come first served basis, while funding lasts. Both visits must be made before the end of March 2018 and include the same pupils.).

Work with our Learning Officer to develop your knowledge of early British history, with an overview from the Iron Age, through the Roman period to the end of the Vikings. Find out how Coventry museums can support the history curriculum and take away ideas for teaching history in the classroom.
