Pet shop owner fined over lack of licence

Published Friday, 26 May 2017

A Coventry woman has been fined for running a pet shop without a licence.

Amanda Evans, aged 39, of The Barley Lea, Coventry, appeared before city magistrates on a charge of Trading without a pet shop licence at Godiva Reptiles and Exotics.

Magistrates heard that a pet shop licence runs annually from 1 January – 31 December, but Ms Evans failed to apply for a new licence for 2017 and continued to trade as a pet shop.

Animal Welfare Officers from Coventry City Council carried out a successful test purchase leading to the prosecution.

Ms Evans pleaded guilty by post and was fined £40, ordered to pay costs of £755 and a Victim Surcharge of £30.
