John has been a member of the Rotary Club of Coventry for 33 years, which consists of people who want to help others around the world, including young children and those recovering from natural disasters.

During most of this time, John has been secretary of the Community Service Committee and for over 25 years has been responsible for the organisation of Outward Bound Courses for dozens of young people with disabilities.

Outside of the Rotary Club, John has been involved with Godiva Harriers, the City of Coventry’s Freemen’s Guild, the Lord Mayor’s Peace Committee, the Coventry Hiroshima Friendship Group and also worked as a secretary for John Gulson Old Boy’s Club.

Through all of his work, his wife, Margaret, has supported him, providing secretarial support for John so that he can continue provide all he does for his community, supporting him at events by baking cakes and applying face paint, as well as working for many years for Children’s Services at Coventry City Council.

Councillor Tony Skipper, the Lord Mayor of Coventry, said: “It’s evident that John and Margaret are both loving and caring people who are kind enough to help people in any way that they can. Coventry is lucky to have them and I believe their remarkable work in the community merits them as truly Good Citizens.”

John and Margaret were presented with their Good Citizen awards on Tuesday 5 September at the Council House.
