Tailor made training sessions for school staff 2017/2018.

Our tailor made training sessions are open to school staff that have responsibility for their school’s library or responsibility for literacy and wish to learn more about how to improve the library and literacy offer in their school.

Autumn Term 2017

Junior Librarian (stand-alone version)

Monday 27 November 1:00pm-3:30pm

Learn how to get the most out of your library software. Use it to support not just the efficient running of the school library but wider literacy in the school.  The course will cover how to use views and links, Weblinks and floorplan, enrolment data, statistics and reports, reminders and how to carry out stocktaking and housekeeping on your database. Plus an opportunity to ask your own questions!

Spring Term 2018

Pergamon Mu  Demonstration – New Library Management System

Are you looking for a cheap and easy solution to managing your library? This new library management has been developed with School Library Services and is offered exclusively through SLS’s at a significantly lower cost than other commercially available software packages. Come to this demonstration to find out more and see if it would work for your school.

The School Library and Accelerated Reader

This training session is an opportunity to discuss AR and how it can be used in a variety of ways, whilst still supporting reading for pleasure. An empowering and useful session for staff working with reading and literacy within school. The session will also include a very useful, free take home toolkit.

Running the Primary Library

This course is designed to help staff with responsibility for the library to learn how to do so effectively. Make your library a positive asset to the school and maximise the learning opportunities that a well-run library can offer. The session will cover a range of practical skills as well as activities and library lessons that can be used with the children. It aims to provide the participants with the knowledge required to develop information skills as well as reading for pleasure.

Engaging the Reluctant Reader – The Power of Image

Tuesday 12 June 1.00-3.30pm
Central Library, First Floor, Meeting Room 1

Reaching the students who can’t or just don’t read is the hardest part of running a successful school library. This course will look at how the use of pictures can help you get these students to engage with books. It will also look at the barriers to reading and how you can help break those down. We aim for you to be able to go back to your school with a fresh perspective and a practical toolkit of ideas to try.
