Coventry children shadow Lord Mayor for the day

Published Thursday, 12 October 2017

Pupils from Limbrick Wood Primary School found out what it meant to be Lord Mayor for the day by shadowing him on his civic duties.

Lord Mayor and Year 6 winning pupils

The children witnessed a Citizenship Ceremony, had a walking tour of the Council buildings and learned a lot about its history. They also had lunch with the Lord Mayor where they asked him lots of questions about how to become the Lord Mayor and the types of duties he is expected to undertake as part of his role.

The year 6 pupils were chosen from a school poster competition by the Lord Mayor on the subject of 'One thing that you would change about Coventry'. A number of suggestions included a better park, a water park, better housing for families and how to tackle homelessness.

The event was part of Local Democracy Week which teaches the importance of democracy to young people.
