Your Choice, Your Future - Calling all 16-24 year olds to a careers fair

Monday 12 December 2011

Tough times call for decisive action and the Coventry Partnership is teaming up with the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) to address youth unemployment and offer hope and opportunities for the city's 16-24 year-olds.

The careers fair takes place at Coventry Rugby Club, Butts Park Arena Thursday 15th December between 10am and 6pm.

The free event will combine advice on training, education and employment with some potential job opportunities. Exhibitors will include college and training providers, representatives from higher education, the armed forces and providers of health and well-being advice as well as volunteering opportunities.

Workshops will be offered including support for writing a CV, job interview techniques and how to search for jobs online.

Jane Beaver, leader of the Economy, Learning, Skills and Employability (ELSE) theme group of the Coventry Partnership and District Manager for Job Centre Plus, said, "we all know how tough it is for young people at the moment with increases in university tuition fees and a tightening job market. In partnership with the C&W LEP, the Coventry Partnership realises the importance or real action to address the problem, not just words. This careers fair will offer young people the complete range of skills, employment and training advice to help them move forward."

Daniel Gidney, chairman of the LEP's Skills and Employability Task Group and Chief Executive of The Ricoh Arena said, "this careers fair is about relevant help for young people with the right mix of professionals brought together at the right time to ensure every possible question around skills, education, training, job hunting and health/well-being can be answered. The Coventry & Warwickshire LEP recognises that the future of Coventry is in the hands of the current generation of 16-24 year olds. We've already embarked on an ambitious plan to generate 100 apprenticeships in 100 days and are committed to seeing successful outcomes at this event."

We hope as many young people and their parents attend the event.
