This is the 13th year of the Coventry Inspiration Book Awards and they continue to develop and change to reflect the needs of Coventry Schools.
The five categories give every student the chance to participate whatever their age or ability. The website will be launching soon and the voting will start in January so you still have plenty of time to order a set of books and join in!
The Book Awards are a great way to promote reading for pleasure in your school by widening student’s exposure to a range of genres and styles of book. The Awards can also help students improve their reading skills and discover the enjoyment that comes from finding the right book. You can have the confidence that you will have sets of the very best books available for children and young people, and the website and publicity campaign to help you spread the message to parents and carers. The web pages on www.coventry.gov.uk/bookawards include helpful advice on sharing books with children and suggestions of other exciting books to try.
To keep the Book Awards fresh and exciting for schools and students to participate in we are launching two new initiatives this year to run alongside the video trailer competition which has been gaining in popularity over the last couple of years.
Firstly we will be running a Hooked on Books quiz for both Primary and Secondary pupils based on the eight shortlisted books to give that competitive edge we all know can encourage students to read more of the books.
Secondly we are launching a new scheme to help students explore the types of books they like by giving incentives for reading more books in a genre or style that they have discovered through the Book Awards. Look out for more information about all of these which will be coming out to schools soon. For enquiries about the Book Awards and to order your sets of books please contact SLS@coventry.gov.uk
