Celebration of Coventry's young talent
Monday 30 January 2012
Young people from Coventry will be performing at the Belgrade Theatre this weekend as part of an event organised by the Youth Service, to celebrate Youth Arts in the City.
"Youth Arts 2012" will take to the stage on Friday 3 February and Saturday 4 February from 6.30pm to 9pm.
Young people aged 13 to 19 years from Youth Service youth groups around the city, will put on a showcase of artistic performances. The performers have been working towards their performances for almost a year, many of them learning new skills in both performance and technical aspects to performing including the role of a sound technician, designing and painting the back drop and writing their own music and lyrics.
Councillor Jim O'Boyle, Cabinet Member (Children and Young People) is looking forward to showing his support for the young people when he attends the show on Saturday evening. Councillor O'Boyle said: "It's good to see young people using their spare time and energy in a productive way, which for some may lead to future careers in music and for others helps to build their confidence and sense of achievement, pride in themselves and their city.
"Everyone taking part in the event has worked really hard to put on a fantastic show including the young people, their youth workers, arts workers and volunteers. This illustrates what young people can achieve when given support through youth work programmes. There are some very talented young people in Coventry."
The event is free, but not open to the general public. Entrance is by invite only.
