Diamond Jubilee - Let's Party!
Monday 30 January 2012
Coventry residents wanting to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June are being given a big helping hand by Coventry City Council.
The Council has once again streamlined the administrative processes needed before people hold community events and street parties - and is hoping that this year's celebrations will prove even more popular than last year's Royal Wedding Street Parties.
Cllr George Duggins, Deputy Leader Coventry City Council is leading the work to encourage local people to celebrate the day in their neighbourhoods. He said "Last year we helped 25 Street parties to happen, and in the months since, there have been other community events where the same streets have come together. When we simplified the application process this is exactly what we had hoped would happen, and we aim to make this year a record breaker for street parties.
"We're doing our bit at the council by producing one simple form for residents to use to let us know about their plans, so they can get on with the real work of organising a fun event."
So far the council have received requests from 52 individuals, in areas all around the city.
Anyone interested in organising a party in their street can e-mail streetparties@coventry.gov.uk for information, advice and help. Guidance and application forms can also be downloaded.
Cllr George Duggins added "People should email us, so we can give them advice and help as quickly as possible - we want to bring the city alive with bunting and flags! We know that a simple street party can bring long lasting benefits to neighbourhoods."
