Godiva Festival Parking Update

Tuesday 19 June 2012

With the opening night of this year's Godiva Festival just over one week away, parking provisions have been put in place to ensure visitors and residents have a safe and enjoyable experience.

The Park and Ride South bus service will be suspended for two full days on Friday 29 June and Saturday 30 June due to part of the festival taking place within the car parking area. There will, therefore, be NO access to the festival car park at the Park and Ride entrance.

The car park will be closed to the general public from 6pm on Thursday 28 June and reopen at 7am on Monday 2 July.

There is AMPLE FREE parking at the festival with the main entrance from Leamington Road (CV3 6PY) exit ring road J5 and follow directional signs.

Disabled parking will be available opposite the visitors section and there will be a limited amount of electric scooters and manual wheelchairs available for those with walking difficulties on a first come first served basis.

The vehicles will be available near the new visitor centre. On the day there will be a limited number of mobility scooters and manual wheelchairs available for those with walking difficulties.

The event mobility unit will be situated in the Visitors Centre (Old golf pavilion) Alternative provisions have been made on Sunday 1 July to limit the inconvenience to festival goers and visitors to the Torch Relay and there will be an additional 200-space pay for use car parking facility in the Virgin Trains Car Park, on Warwick Road, entrance off the Central Six roundabout leaving just a short walk up to War Memorial Park.

Drivers are being asked not to park on the verges of Kenilworth Road, or Leamington Road, as offending vehicles will be subject to a fixed penalty notice. Cars causing an obstruction on surrounding roads will be towed away.

Park and Ride North car park will be operating as usual during the festival but there may be delays on Saturday 30 June due to events in the city centre.

Councillor Lindsley Harvard, Cabinet Member for City Services, said:

"The Godiva Festival is the jewel in the crown in the Coventry events calendar and we are determined to give residents and visitors a festival they can continue to be proud of.

We have worked hard to alleviate potential parking problems by arranging extra parking spaces in the Virgin Trains car park at Coventry Station, enabling visitors to still park close to War Memorial Park and come along and enjoy what will, I'm sure, be a fantastic event."

Both Coventry Railway Station and Pool Meadow Bus Station are within a 15 minute walk of the main event site.
