Is your child attending a Healthy Nursery or Pre-School?

The scheme provides a quality assurance to parents - both existing and prospective that you have met targets in 6 identified areas of health promotion:
Breastfeeding
Healthy Nutrition
Physical Activity
Oral Health
Immunisation
Stop Smoking

Currently 76% of Coventry's Nurseries and Pre-schools are signed up the award with 35% of these having gained full accreditation. This is a great accolade for Coventry as the award was only launched in March 2011.

Ellie McCann, CHEYSA Project Manager said;

"This project has only been running just over a year, and I am tremendously proud of the achievements so far, with 76% of Early Years settings already signed up - but I am not going to stop there! My mission is to get the other 24% signed up, as I know that a lot of them are already reaching the criteria needed for the award, and just registering and completing the training will give their parents concrete proof of the good work they are doing. I would like to see 100% of Coventry children attending a CHEYSA Nursery or Pre-School, and I would urge parents to ask if theirs has this award."

As part of the award we offer Early Years staff free training in :
Breastfeeding (UNICEF accredited) - mandatory Healthy lifestyles- mandatory Oral Health-recommended Nutrition (Eating Well for the Under 5's, weaning, menu checking, work with parents)

The award is suitable for all Early Years Settings, whether open all day or just run for mornings, even those who don't provide lunch, where the children may bring their own or no food is consumed on site at all.

The assessment process is worked with Early Years staff and Ellie McCann from the council, who will provide support and guidance throughout enabling the setting to gain this valuable award.
