Blow (me) down
Friday 6 July 2012
One of Coventry's iconic landmarks will be demolished on Sunday – and you will be able to see the whole thing live!
The AGCO tower, on the former Massey Ferguson site on Banner Lane, will be demolished by the controlled use of explosives between 10am-12noon on Sunday 8 July.
If you want to make sure you get a good vantage point, why not watch the event LIVE in the comfort of your own home? Just go to www.coventry.gov.uk/tower.
Cllr Lynnette Kelly, cabinet member for City Development, said: "This tower means a lot to the people of Coventry, and especially to those who used to work at the Massey's plant. Thanks to the power of technology people from all over the globe will be able to witness this historic event."
Demolition experts from the Cuddy Group have been brought in to oversee the 'blowdown' and have advised that the demolition will only take place when certain safety precautions have been adhered to. They also advise that the time of the event - scheduled anytime between 10am and 12noon - may be delayed due to adverse weather conditions.
