A vote to elect a city councillor to represent Radford ward in Coventry has been postponed following the death of one of the candidates.
Dave Anderson was set to contest the Labour-held ward for the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition this Thursday (2 MAY).
But his death means that the local election has had to be postponed, with a new notice of election likely to be published next week. The postponed election is now likely to take place in June.
All other elections to Coventry City Council will go ahead this Thursday as planned.
However, people living in Radford who are eligible to vote are still encouraged to do so at polling stations across the ward this Thursday, as the elections for the Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Police and Crime Commissioner are going ahead.
Julie Newman, Returning Officer for elections to Coventry City Council, said: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Dave Anderson following his death.
“Although this means this Thursday’s Radford ward election for a place on the city council must be re-arranged, I would urge Radford residents to still turn out to vote as planned as the elections of Mayor for the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands remain unaffected.
“I’d also remind voters that they will need their Voter ID to vote.”
