Coventry young people go for gold

Up to 200 young people from across Coventry took part in an Olympic style event at Lyng Hall School.
The event (on Wednesday 1 August) started with a five-a-side tournament, with lots of competitive sporting activities throughout the afternoon.
The young people, in mixed teams of two age groups (11 - 14 and 15 - 19) took part in a range of activities including track and field, 100 metre race, Javelin, long jump, 400m relay, three legged race, sack race, fancy dress race, wellie wanging and a team quiz. The day closed with a medal award presentation for winning teams.
Councillor Jim O'Boyle, Cabinet Member (Children and Young People) said: "It is good to see young people putting so much energy and enthusiasm into the games. I'm sure they had lots of fun."
Throughout the day there were also dance taster workshops, health awareness information about the c-card and music.
