Official park opening and fun day at Morris Common

Thursday 16 August 2012

A new play area on Morris Common, Stoke Heath, will be officially opened by the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress today (Thurs Aug 16) after months of planning and consultation with local residents.

Face painting, and fun activities such as egg and spoon races and sack races will also be held to help celebrate the opening and there will also be refreshments and information on Council and community services on hand.

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Tim Sawdon, said:  "Everyone's worked really hard to design a park that the local community will really enjoy and which will also reflect the site's history.  I hope the weather holds so that people can really enjoy the fun day that is planned for the official opening."

Plans for the park were drawn up after asking children and the Morris Common Steering Group, what they would like to see in the park and then a design was drawn up that included a small racing track to keep with the theme of Morris cars.

The fun day has been organised by the City Council's Neighbourhood Action, Urban Rangers, Community Regeneration and Parks teams and also Stoke Heath Community Centre, Stoke Heath Children's Centre, Stoke Heath Primary School and the Police.
