Park Challenge
Monday 17 September 2012
A team of volunteers has taken up the gauntlet to make improvements to Burnsall Grove Public Open Space on 29 September and Lake View Park on 30 September as part of 'The Challenge'.
Up to 60 young people will be volunteering their time on both days to carry out a range of tasks with Coventry City Council's Parks Service Rangers and members of Friends of Canley Open Spaces and Lake View Park Group.
The work includes cutting back paths, hedge laying, rubbish removal, wildlife surveys and planting a small orchard. The work will improve these sites for residents and for wildlife, and the community groups are really looking forward to the extra support.
Cllr Phil Townsend, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Equalities, said: "This is a great idea. It offers young people the opportunity to meet and engage with local groups and projects, while at the same time improving the environment for the community."
The Challenge Network (TCN) was founded in 2009 with the mission to connect and inspire people to strengthen their communities. The programmes aim to create a rite of passage for 16 year olds, promote social mixing and support community engagement.
