Friday 5 October 2012

Social care workers at Coventry City Council have been short-listed for four regional awards.

Three members of staff and one team are in the running for the regional heat of the at this year's Great British Care Awards that takes place on 26 October.

The awards are a series of regional events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector.

The purpose of the Great British Care Awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

Lynn Titcumb who works at Eric Williams House, a specialist residential home for people living with dementia, has been shortlisted for the Care Innovator Award.

Mel Mann, who works at the Wilfred Spencer Centre which provides day opportunities for people with learning disabilities, has been shortlisted for the Dignity in Care Award.

Finally Jo-Ann Dundas, who manages adult social care facilities at Brandon Wood Farm and Curriers Close in Canley, both of which provide support to adults with Learning Disabilities, is nominated for the Front Line Leaders Award.

Staff working at The Aylesford - a short-stay service that helps people make the transition from a hospital stay to living back in their home - have also been shortlisted in the Care Team Award category.

The Great British Care Awards consist of nine regional awards leading to two national finals for both the home care and care home sectors. The West Midlands awards will be held on 26 October 2012.

The awards are open to the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors as well as unpaid carers.

Cllr Ann Lucas, Coventry City Council's Cabinet Member for Health and Community Services, said the shortlisting was recognition for staff across a demanding but rewarding area.

"There are countless people working within adult social care here in the city who do a wonderful job so it is always nice when a few get the recognition they deserve," she said.

"These awards give recognition to those who work hard to ensure good quality care and give everyone in the care sector, a benchmark of quality to aspire to."
