The Great Blitz Build call out
The Great Blitz Build is a creative community project led by Coventry City Council. Join us in a powerful and uplifting community project inspired by the resilience and spirit of the Coventry Blitz, a period in our history that brought our city together and showed our spirit of resilience. In that same togetherness and spirit, help us build a spectacular modern interpretation of the Cathedral, created by the community, for the community.
Coventry City Council is inviting you to take part in a unique and powerful creative project this November. You can do this as a family, a school, a community group, a faith group or even on your own.
Join internationally acclaimed artist Olivier Grossetête and his team in constructing a spectacular large-scale cardboard structure that commemorates the 85th Coventry Blitz and celebrates the community spirit that helped rebuild the city.
This amazing temporary landmark will rise as a symbol of remembrance, resilience, and the extraordinary strength found in unity, the things that Coventry is known for and proud of. World-renowned artist Olivier will reimagine Coventry Cathedral in a bold and imaginative interpretation from thousands of pieces of cardboard. Yet the true wonder of this project lies not only in its stunning visual impact, but in the spirit behind it: a whole community, regardless of background, coming together in peace, creativity, and solidarity.
You don’t need to be an artist or super creative, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in! We would love to see people of all ages and abilities
We welcome participation from:
- community groups, schools, families, and individuals
- people aged 10 and over (all children must be accompanied by a responsible adult).
No prior experience needed — just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in!
Workshop details
Dates: 10 to 15 November 2025
Location: Drapers’ Hall, Bayley Lane, Coventry City Centre – this is a fully accessible venue
Sessions: 2 workshops daily between 9.30am to 1pm, 12pm to 3.30pm and 5.30pm to 9pm
Duration: Approx. 3.5 hours per session
Capacity: Up to 45 participants per session
Participants are welcome to attend 1 or multiple workshops.
