Course details

It is important for staff to have up to date knowledge of medicines handling and administration in order to remain confident and competent in the workplace and to reduce the likelihood of medicines errors. This is a theory-based course and should be supported with work-based competency assessments.

Learning outcomes:

  • Undertaking error reporting
  • Managing medication incidents

  • Overview of medication management
  • Using a competency assessment tool
  • Competency assessment scenarios & practice video
  • Exercises & activities to assess competence of recording
  • Activities to evaluate staff members understanding 
  • Management of medication incidents/Case studies on incident management
  • Coaching principles
  • Safeguarding
  • Action planning
  • Detailed question and answer session

Course length

1 day (2 x 3 hour sessions) online via Zoom
