Adult Social Care training and development - Leader in Adult Care Diploma Level 5

Course details

Course aim:

This qualification will guide and inspire teams to make positive differences to someone’s life when they are faced with physical, practical, social, emotional or intellectual challenges.

This will enable the leader to understand:

  • Statutory frameworks, standards, guidance and Codes of Practice which underpin practice in relation to the safe delivery of services.
  • Systems and processes needed to ensure compliance with regulations and organisational policies and procedures including health and safety and risk management.
  • Principles of risk management, assessment and outcome-based practice.
  • Principles and underpinning theories of change management including approaches, tools and techniques that support the change process.
  • Legislative and regulatory frameworks which inform quality standards.
  • Theories and models that underpin performance and appraisal including disciplinary procedures.

Course outcomes:

In order to meet the apprenticeships standards, apprentices must:

  1. Achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care (England)
  2. Attain a minimum of level 2 English
  3. Attain a minimum of level 2 in Maths
  4. Undertake an enhanced DBS check before starting the qualification.

In addition to these, candidates will be required to complete an End Point Assessment which will contain 3 components

  1. Situational judgment test– multiple choice
  2. Professional Discussion
  3. Action research Project

Each component of the end-point assessment is graded. Apprentices will also receive a grade for the overall end-point assessment.

This will be Pass/Merit/Distinction.

Leader in Adult Care Diploma Level 5

Target group

This qualification is aimed at a leaders of the care team and will develop and implement a values-based culture at a service or unit level. They may be responsible for business development, financial control, organisational resilience and continuity as well as for managing risk and leading on organisational change. Leaders in Adult Care may work in residential or nursing homes, domiciliary care, day centres, a person’s own home or some clinical healthcare settings.
