In 1986 the new Central library opened in the former Locarno dance hall building on Smithford Way.
The glass tower and connecting bridge to the main frontage were retained at the time but were demolished in 1991 when the still current glass frontage was constructed.
The building was part of the Coventry's music scene in the 1960/70/80s.
The Central library will be conducting a behind-the-scenes tour at 2pm.
You will be able to discover what goes on before the books are ready to go on the shelves, what the building was used for in the past and take a peek at some of the areas normally hidden from the public.
