Why choose an apprenticeship at Coventry City Council?

'One Coventry' is our approach to building a Coventry that works for all. It is not a programme with projects and milestones. It is about how we do things now and in the future. It's working together to improve people's lives and the city.

We are developing how we view modern employment routes into the organisation by embedding apprenticeships and work placements within our people strategies, talent pipeline and career pathways. We want to provide a modern employment offer and a viable route into and up through the organisation for both existing and new employees.

Overview of our service areas

At Coventry City Council, we enable individuals and families to achieve successful outcomes through customer contact, public health prevention and education and skills, adults and children’s services and provide support for the most vulnerable. The work we do improves people’s lives – from helping them into work to providing clean and green places to live, to keeping people safe and protected.

Business want to come and invest in the city because of the work we are doing. We’re providing jobs for local people and improving the skills of young people so they can be the workforce of the future. We are dedicated to delivering the city’s economic and cultural regeneration and delivering high quality services, including provision of the city’s highways, good schools, healthy and resilient communities, refuse collection, sporting provision and cultural life.

Apprenticeship vision

Coventry City Council's vision is to increase the apprenticeship and graduate opportunities by offering high quality apprenticeship programmes across all service areas of the council, affording access to a broad range of training and development at multiple levels.

What is the role of apprentices in Coventry City Council?

We want to attract and develop future talent within the Council, by providing a structured apprenticeship programme which retains, develops and provides transferable skills needed to succeed in the modern economy.

Our apprenticeships and graduates present an opportunity to improve the diversity and inclusion of our workforce by providing people from all backgrounds with a greater opportunity to progress with their careers, and will enable the Council to benefit from a skilled, motivated, and flexible workforce.

Read our Apprenticeship Strategy.

All our apprenticeships are advertised through our online jobs site, the National Apprenticeship Service, Job Shop and social media.

Instead of a CV, you will be asked three questions based on the apprenticeship for which you will be applying.

Open day

Throughout the year, we hold four open days, where you can learn more about what we offer through our apprenticeships.

Following the open days, we will be open for applications, which will be advertised on the website closer to the date.

Assessment day

Following a successful application, you will be invited to attend an assessment day.

The assessment day will be divided into three sections:

  1. Group activity
  2. Interview
  3. Maths and English Assessment

Final decision

An offer will be emailed to you upon a successful assessment day.
