The Horizon team works with young people who are being targeted for the purpose of sexual exploitation and those who are fully entrenched and unable to recognise their abuse. Horizon is a statutory social care team that consists of Social Workers, Youth Workers, a Children and Families Worker, a Health Worker and a Police Officer. Young people who are in need of support from the Horizon team are usually supported via the Child In Need or Child Protection processes. The Youth Workers also support those who are in Local Authority care.
The team will support young people to recognise their abuse by working with them around understanding healthy and unhealthy relationships, grooming, online safety and sexual exploitation.
Work will also be completed with parents in order to help them to understand the grooming process and sexual exploitation, in order to support them to safety plan for their child.
The Horizon team also support young people who are victims of police investigations and throughout court trials to ensure that they are appropriately prepared, listened to and valued during these processes.
A guidance has been developed for frontline professionals working with young people deemed to be at low risk of CSE.
