City gateways: 20mph limit and restricted parking zone

20mph sign

A 20mph zone and restricted parking zone has been created to cover the whole city centre, with the aim of improving the safety for everyone.

You will have already seen the change to the layout of a number of roads. These new road designs have been brought in to make traffic slow down without having to put up too many road signs.

The city centre is also covered by a restricted parking zone (RPZ). This means on-street parking in the city centre is only allowed in signed parking bays.

So before you park in the city centre:

  • Look for the metered parking bays, if there is no signed parking bay then you are not allowed to park there

  • If you do park at the side of the road and not in a signed parking bay you will be committing an offence and may be given a parking ticket

The restricted parking zone is a new idea for Coventry and we have introduced 'gateways' to help drivers recognise this change as they enter the city centre.

Remember - no marking - no parking - you are entering into a 20mph and restricted parking zone.
