The Coventry to Nuneaton rail upgrade, known locally as NUCKLE phase 1, will improve the existing rail line between Coventry and Nuneaton and allow service frequency to double from one train per hour to two trains per hour. It forms the first part of a vision for a direct rail link between Nuneaton and Leamington Spa. Two new stations have already been completed at Coventry (Ricoh) Arena and Bermuda Park in Warwickshire, and platforms have also been lengthened at Bedworth station to accommodate longer trains. A new bay platform will be built at Coventry station, work on which will commence in 2020 following procurement of a contractor.
NUCKLE is being delivered by the Council, Transport for West Midlands and Warwickshire County Council - with the Council acting as the lead. It is funded by the three partners, Department for Transport (DfT) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
