Our vision for Adult Social Care is to enable the most vulnerable people to live independent and fulfilled lives with stronger networks and personalised support. Achieving this vision will require a committed workforce, one which is skilled, stable, motivated, and committed to delivering excellent services. Our aim is to provide a framework that promotes and creates a professional learning culture clearly linked to appraisals and supervision, therefore improving professional excellence, and raising standards across Social Care.

We have established an Adult Services Workforce Development Board which enables a renewed focus on our priorities and needs. This takes account of learning and development, recruitment, retention, workforce planning, and practice development. This will also include the development of a pre-and post-qualifying Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Framework for practitioners.

It is important that our workforce is valued at every stage of their career, whether it is new employee Induction, the delivery of core mandatory training and vocational qualifications, or continuing professional development opportunities that support personal growth and career progression.

The training on offer will fully support staff across Adult Social Care to meet all regulatory and personal requirements so that they can progress in their careers. CPD is an important part of any profession and as a registered practitioner with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) you are expected to further develop your knowledge and skills to meet these standards.

People and Culture are committed to supporting a Learning and Development offer that ensures that Adult Service Workforce has the right skills, knowledge, and competencies to deliver high-quality services. The training and development within this brochure are aligned to the appropriate sector standards including the CQC (Care Quality Commission) assessment framework and Skills for Care induction standards. All training is delivered by qualified trainers and subject-area specialists and this year our Apprenticeship team has been able to add more diploma qualifications than ever before including the brand-new Leader in Adult care.

Our workforce is our most valuable asset and a comprehensive training and development offer really helps support the delivery of excellent services for the people whom we support. This offer provides a robust and comprehensive learning and development offer for all roles across our service.

Please use this in supervision and appraisals to identify your own learning and development needs and discuss these with your manager. Your views and feedback are important to us to evolve the offer as we continue our journey of change, to ensure we are meeting the needs of the workforce.
