School development guidance and school good stewardship guide

School Development Guidance

Where schools are planning to make any changes to premises, land or buildings, approval needs to be obtained from the Local Authority as Landlord.

The school development guidance document outlines the procedure to follow and the forms to complete when contacting the Local Authority. This applies to projects not just when using devolved formula capital funding but also funding from other sources.

School Good Stewardship Guide

The aim of the good stewardship guide is to help make Head Teachers and School Governors aware of the requirements and how they can ensure that their building is appropriately maintained and managed. This guide should be read in conjunction with other documents available, which are mentioned and by seeking the appropriate professional advice.

Although the guide has been tailored towards Community and Voluntary Controlled schools, Headteachers and Governors of Voluntary Aided, Foundation Trust and Academy schools may find the information contained in the guide useful. The guide summarises the Local Authority asset management roles and also provides links to key documents and useful contacts.
