'Young people are at the heart of our service. We recognise that education is not a 'one fits all category'.
Young people are at the heart of our service. We recognise that education is not a 'one fits all category', young people have needs that must be met, enabling them to achieve to their full potential. Mainstream schooling methods can at times bring limitations but when working with Work Related Learning, these barriers are removed and instead we welcome young people into a whole new world of education.
We aim to seek a large variety of courses and make them available for young people to access as part of their education. With a different approach we enable our young people the opportunities to get hands on with vocational training, gain experience in real life working environments and adapt those social skills that are required in the world of work...What could be better?
Qualifications we hear you say! Yes that is covered too. All of our courses have accredited qualifications and although some do not appear on performance measure tables in schools, they still help young people get to the next stage in their personal journey.
By working with the WRL Service, schools are able to offer students a more personalised curriculum which has been developed with the young persons own interests at the centre. These courses are then held off-site, at various centres around the city.
We are a passionate team with years of experience in this area and we are proud to provide an exciting new range of courses this year. We have listened to the demands of schools and sought new provisions in areas of interest. We hope that young people will enjoy the courses as much as we have enjoyed preparing them.
We are very pleased to provide you with an annual Directory of provision, giving professionals the opportunity to become familiar with what we have on offer and learn more about our many providers offering courses to all 13-19 year old students, who are on role with school. It also gives Parents/Carers the chance to explore the possible courses and think about what would be suitable for their child.
Our extensive programme shows the opportunities of off-site learning, made possible by the commitment of FE Colleges and Delivery Providers. They are working in close partnership with the City Council and Home Learning Bases in making provision for young people. We continue to move towards a more flexible offer with delivery from short 6 week programmes, termly programmes, 1 year programmes and 2 year programmes.
We are also able to offer more flexible provision which can accommodate personalised programmes for schools, such as half-day provision or discrete groups by request. We will work with schools to tailor the provision that is required to enable the best outcomes for our young people.
"We are trying to move away from our service being categorised. We want to encourage schools to choose Work Related Learning as a proactive measure, ensuring that all young people are experiencing the type of education that can help them to achieve and reach their full potential."
"Work Related Learning is about inclusion and we want every young person to be considered for Work Related Learning, if it can benefit them in ways that school may not be able to. "
