Work Related Learning and City of Culture

Colourful candles

We are thrilled that as part of UK City of Culture for 2021, Work Related Learning can explore ways of introducing our young people to a whole new world.

Recognising and celebrating the rich cultural diversity that our learners and city represent will expand young people’s knowledge and understanding of the communities in which they live.

Sabrina is our Cultural Champion and will be heading up WRL’s contribution to the upcoming City of Culture. We have lots of exciting ideas we hope to integrate into provision over the next few years and we are excited to start exploring and learning all about how culture shapes our communities and city, as well as having lots of fun.

Our service is planning a series of events, trips and themed cultural days that all of our students will access through their training providers. These will include experiences such as; exposure to the theatre, music, art, language and food from a variety of the cultures and backgrounds represented within Coventry.

From September 2020 we will be introducing themed weeks throughout the year, which will enable our learners to experience and learn about a diverse range of heritages, traditions, celebrations and cultural festivals, including; Eid, St George's Day, Carnival, Burns Night, Diwali, Kwanzaa and many more. Our aim is to encourage our young people to understand the importance of diversity and to celebrate our differences.
