Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO)

Public Space Protection Order (City wide)

The Citywide PSPO was introduced to control problematic drinking of alcohol in the city’s public spaces. In addition it allows officers to confiscate any canisters of Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) as this has been identified as an emerging public health risk and is also associated with Anti Social Behaviour.

It also brings in powers to deal with the nuisance use of vehicles, mainly motorcycles, across the city.  Anyone in possession of a vehicle that isn’t taxed and insured for use on the public highway, or if on private land, hasn’t the express permission of the land owner, are in breach of the Order.

Breach of the Citywide PSPO can result in a fixed penalty notice being issued, or a summons to court.
