3) Broadgate House public realm

The layout of this strategically positioned junction on the main arterial route from the railway station to Broadgate currently hinders the free flow of pedestrians by blocking direct access in and out of Broadgate. This project will improve connectivity and create a more attractive entrance into the heart of the city centre by removing 28 Broadgate/80 Hertford Street and creating a single wide direct pedestrian walkway. The demolition of these properties will expose the historic bridge link and restore Broadgate House to its original state. The public realm improvements will add the finishing touch to make the setting and the general area more attractive.

4) Burges
Coventry City Council
One of Coventry’s most historic streets could be in line for a makeover. The area around the Burges is an ideal choice for restoration and regeneration as its history can be traced back to medieval times and it has number of locally listed buildings. A Heritage Lottery bid could help to unlock over £3m of investment for one of the city’s most historic areas.

5) Cathedral Lanes

Following the transformation of Broadgate, SPG invested in Cathedral Lanes and are part way through transforming it into a new restaurant quarter. Cosy Club, Wagamamas and Las Iguanas are already open. More restaurants are set to open soon.

6) City Centre South
The 560,000 square foot City Centre South scheme – which will deliver a complex the size of Solihull’s Touchwood development including shops, restaurants and cinema – was granted outline planning consent in 2012.
The site, bordered by Upper Precinct, Greyfriars Road and Warwick Road, connects to Bull Yard, where it picks up the new boulevard connection to the railway station.
The new water park and health spa will also be located adjacent to City Centre South – providing a leisure and recreation anchor alongside the new shops and restaurants planned for the site.

7) Council building
Coventry City Council
Coventry City Council is moving into the first building at Friargate. Designed by internationally renowned architects Allies and Morrison, the striking 13 storey, red brick office block will be completed in 2017 and will be home to up to 2,000 Council workers. It’s part of the Council’s plan to reduce the number of buildings we work from – 27 to nine – and will save us around £5m a year by working differently and being more efficient.

8) Coventry railway station masterplan

The current Grade II listed building is tired with limited passenger facilities and poor integration with other forms of transport. Coventry is the fastest growing station outside London over the last 5 years, and is set to benefit from an ambitious programme of improvements to help it cope with the future major growth in passenger numbers and provide an attractive gateway into the city.

Over the last five years the University has invested over £150m in their estate including the addition of a ground-breaking £55m Engineering and Computing Building that opened in 2012 and an award-winning £35m Student Hub that opened in 2011. Leading on from this success, they are now embarking on their next phase of expansion with over £400m of capital development planned over the next 5 years including investment into student accommodation, academic buildings, research facilities, the public realm across the campus and a major mixed use scheme including a new University Headquarters.

10) Destination leisure facility

Coventry's new £37 million city centre water park will house a 25m swimming pool, a water park with slides, 120 station gym, climbing wall, squash courts, health suites, dance studio and spa.
Water Technology Inc. (WTI), world leaders in water park development, has been appointed to design the pools and indoor features, which could include race slides, flumes, wave pools, rapids and wet play equipment.
FaulknerBrowns, an architectural design practice with a national and international reputation, will design the building itself.
Together, they will design something that is as visually impressive on the outside as it is exciting and fun to use on the inside.
The water park is located next to the City Centre South site and will complement the new retail and leisure development.

11) Far Gosford Street

12) Friargate masterplan

Friargate will create a new high quality business gateway into the city centre providing over 3 million square feet of mixed use space over 25 efficient and sustainable new buildings – including 14 grade A office buildings, two hotels and new homes, all set within greatly enhanced public realm to improve the linkages between the 37 acre site, Coventry Railway Station and the city centre. The development will also create up to 15,000 jobs.

The city centre has been transformed thanks to 19 projects funded by grant money. Pavements have been widened, roads narrowed and the settings of beautiful and historic buildings like the Council House and Holy Trinity Church have been improved.
The whole city centre is now a 20mph zone.

15) Ring Road Junction 6 Bridge Deck

The new bridge deck and walking route over Ring Road Junction 6 was officially opened in May 2015. A 100 metre wide connection now links Friargate and the railway station through Greyfriars Green into Bull Yard in the city centre providing direct access to the new City Centre South retail development. Together, the bridge deck and new boulevard will connect to create one of the most attractive and impressive walking routes into a city centre from a railway station of any city in the UK. And with Friargate set to create 15,000 new jobs, the new business district will support our plans for City Centre South.
