A central hub will coordinate referrals to the 10 hubs serving the city. Referrals can be made by an individual by calling 08085 834 333.
Based at 10 locations throughout the city, the Emergency Food Hubs offers a range of community-based offers.
The hubs will be led and managed by the voluntary and community sector, as it is recognised that the right leaders of this effort are the people who know their local communities and can mobilise local volunteers.
None of the hubs will offer identical provision as the offer will be based on their capacity and need in the local area. The three main offers of an Emergency Food Hub are:
Emergency Food Hubs will become Foodbank distributors in partnership with Coventry Foodbank and the Trussell Trust. This provision will be for those with a foodbank voucher either currently accessing foodbanks or newly referred due to loss of work or other economic hardship.
More than 10,000 children in Coventry ordinarily receive free school meals and some also receive free breakfasts. Whilst some children are still attending school in person and are being fed on site, many more require alternative arrangements.
A national free schools meal scheme has been launched providing shopping vouchers worth £15 per week to spend at supermarkets. However, the supermarket vouchers may not work in all circumstances, including where vulnerable families without support networks are also required to self-isolate. A level of free school meals food parcel distribution can be offered, with the local Emergency Food Hubs acting as coordination and delivery points in partnership with school staff.
The hubs will provide a base for the various community support models that already exist or have been created in response to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) emergency. These support models include Social Supermarkets, Grub Hubs, Good Neighbours Coventry, Food Forward and others. They provide a variety of neighbourhood services such as supporting people with shopping and pharmacy supplies, providing cooked and frozen meals, and befriending.
