We aim to have claims paid within a month, but it depends on how quickly you give us all the information we need. When we have all the information, we will work out your benefit and write to you to tell you how much you will get.
If you qualify, your benefit will be calculated from the Monday after we get your claim form. If you think your benefit should start earlier, you can request 'backdating'.
For working age customers backdating can be requested for up to a maximum of 1 month earlier, but there has to have been continuous good cause for not applying sooner.
For pension age customers there is an automatic take on period which backdates for up to 3 months, this is the maximum we can backdate.
