Depending on your circumstances there are different referral routes within the council to help you. Our leaflet provides further advice for young people and care leavers.
Care leavers and Looked After Children can get advice and support for housing issues from Coventry Council's Through Care Team.
Through Care is responsible for providing accommodation until a Care Leaver/Looked after Child is 18 years old.
If you are a Care Leaver who is threatened with or made homeless between the ages of 18-25, get in contact with your Personal Advisor. They may liaise with the Homelessness Prevention Service to work through accommodation options.
If you approach the Homelessness Prevention Team, are under 18 and have never been in care we will refer you to the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) who will ensure that you get access to the relevant services and accommodation. You can also contact MASH directly on 024 7678 8555. For an out of office hours service contact 024 7683 2222.
If you are 18-25 and are threatened with homelessness within 56 days or are already homeless you should contact the Homelessness Prevention team either in person, by phone by using the details below. The earlier you approach, the more likely we can prevent your homelessness.
The Homelessness Prevention Service will work with you to prevent or alleviate your homelessness in partnership with several other organisations.
If you are being asked to leave by your parents or family it is important that you seek advice at an early stage and do not wait until you are homeless. The Homelessness Prevention Service may be able to help you to remain in the property by negotiating with your family members and planning alternative arrangements if necessary. We are also able to offer access to independent mediation services who work with families to resolve disputes and mend relationships. As such referrals to a formal mediation process may be necessary.
The earlier you get in touch with us, the more likely we’ll be able to resolve your housing situation. Call the Homelessness Prevention Service on 024 7683 4025.
Due to new homelessness legislation, you are not required to have priority need or links to a council area (local connection) to access the Homelessness Prevention Service. Priority need will only be taken into account to decide whether you are entitled to interim accommodation under a relief duty or owed a main housing duty.
This means that we may provide you with short-term accommodation if you meet a certain level of need. We will look at your situation and any people who are dependent on you to make a decision.
