A message from the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Councillor John Blundell.
"It is a joyous time when many families in our city join millions around the world in celebrating their faith and culture.
And it is a day that we should celebrate as one.
Diwali reminds us of the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. It shows us that knowledge can overpower ignorance and there is hope after despair.
They are very strong and important messages for us all – and they signify much of what our city stands for.
One of Coventry’s great strengths is that we have a wealth of cultures that all bring their own traditions to our city where we celebrate them as one community.
Diwali is one of those times that help us to celebrate old friendships, make new ones, and grow even closer as a city.
And it is a time when our city’s streets come alive with a beautiful display of lights.
I wish you a Diwali that brings happiness, prosperity and joy to you and all your family.
May your life be as colourful, shimmering and magical as the lights of Diwali!"
