2019 is set to be a very exciting year! It's the Coventry and Warwickshire Year of Wellbeing and Coventry is the European City of Sport.
This provides us with a fantastic opportunity to engage the people of Coventry in ways to improve their health and wellbeing.
A recent Members' Seminar was held which provided elected members with an overview of both the Year of Wellbeing and the European City of Sport, celebrating the progress to date and getting ready for 2019 and the opportunities it brings for the people of Coventry. Elected members have an important role to play, so this event gave each Councillor an informative insight into what the year holds.
Before the seminar began, a meet and greet session with providers who will support this work also took place. This was an informal opportunity to meet with service providers so members could find out about their contribution to 2019 events.
Key providers included:
The Year of Wellbeing is an opportunity for us to inspire, encourage and reignite people's passion for wellbeing and use this as an opportunity to protect their own health. There are great things happening every day in the City with a lot to learn and celebrate however there is always more we can do. The opening of The Wave, waterpark, the new 50 metre pool at the Alan Higgs Centre, cricket wickets and walking and running routes in our parks and the Sport and Wellness Hub at Warwick University bring new experiences to enhance wellbeing.
We have also recently been awarded the Europe Corporate Games 2019, showing that Coventry is a leading destination for sport and culture in the UK.
Key people spoke about all of these exciting things coming to life in 2019. These included, Dave Moorcroft, Chair of Coventry Sport Network and David Nuttall, Strategic Lead – City of Culture who delivered a speech on Coventry as European City of Sport.
Liz Gaulton, Director of Public Health and Wellbeing and Jane Coates, Year of Wellbeing Delivery Manager gave an overview of Coventry and Warwickshire Year of Wellbeing.
