Get On Your Feet this Friday

Workers across Britain are being encouraged to convert “sitting time” to “standing time” this Friday (26 April) as part of the On Your Feet Britain campaign.

People are being encouraged to make small changes to their Friday to become more active and reduce the amount of time they spend sitting at their desk. Making small changes to reduce prolonged sitting during office hours can help us lead a more active lifestyle, helping us stay in better condition - and less likely to develop long term conditions such as coronary heart disease or Type 2 diabetes.

This could include:

  • Using the stairs instead of the lift
  • Standing during phone calls
  • Have standing or walking meetings
  • Walking to a colleague's desk instead of phoning, emailing or messaging them
  • Stand at the back of the room during presentations
  • Standing to take a break from your computer every 30 minutes

There are also a number of challenges that teams can get involved in.

With 2019 also being Coventry and Warwickshire's Year of Wellbeing, this campaign is just one of the ways people can get involved in improving health and wellbeing for themselves and others.

Year of Wellbeing Project Lead, Jane Coates, said: "We only need to make small changes to what we do in order to take care of ourselves better, and just remembering every day to move a little more and sit less is one of the most important things."
