Another exciting new sport facility has arrived in the city’s War Memorial Park and it goes by the name of Footgolf, which will open as part of our European City of Sport year celebrations.

Opening to the public on Saturday 8 June, as it sounds, it’s a combination of football and golf, just with bigger holes - and it provides the first such facility in the city of Coventry.

It’s a great time to launch Footgolf with Coventry celebrating our European City of Sport year and Year of Wellbeing, as the sport will offer people an enjoyable and easy way to get out and enjoy some exercise.

The course is situated on the old pitch and putt site and will provide great fun for all the family as well an ideal venue to celebrate family events, birthdays, work outings and children’s birthday parties.

Councillor Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Parks said:

“We’re looking at Footgolf attracting additional numbers and footfall into the park with it being the only such facility in Coventry. As a Council we’ve had to take a look at the current usage of all our facilities and the bottom line is that users of the current pitch and putt course in the park has been steadily declining.

On that basis, we need to look to generate more income to make the facility more financially viable.  We want to encourage people to come along, have a game, enjoy some exercise whilst having fun and make the most of all the facilities the park has to offer.”

Local football, golf or sporting clubs will also be encouraged to make use of the new facility and make it a regular fixture in their social calendar.

All equipment is provided, all skill levels are welcome and there is no need to book – just turn up and play! Players can play nine or eighteen holes and there’ll be discounted prices for under 16's.
