A moving exhibition in Broadgate next month will highlight the threat of diabetes.
A display of single shoes will symbolise the current number of diabetes-related amputations which take place every week in the UK - which currently stands at 169.
The event will be held on Saturday 15 June from 9am to 4.30pm as part of National Diabetes Week.
Many people do not believe that diabetes is serious and as a consequence do not look after themselves properly.
In the long term this has a huge impact on quality of life and the resultant complications have enormous cost implications to the NHS
An information stall and volunteers around the city centre will give people the opportunity to ask questions and seek information to help them better self-manage their condition and improve their long-term health.
People will also be encouraged to find out their personal risk score for developing diabetes over the next 10-15 years and to take steps towards the prevention of type 2 diabetes if they are at risk
