Coven Tree will help love of reading to grow

The Coventry Inspiration Book Awards for 2020 are being joined by a new scheme to help schools spread the love of reading even further.

The Coven Tree Reading Journey will support the aim of the awards to encourage more children and young people to read for pleasure, which has been proven to help wellbeing as well as literacy skills.

The package is designed to give schools everything they need to get pupils exploring different types of books and discover the types they enjoy rather than following a traditional, prescribed route.

There are packs for different age groups, including Telling Tales for ages 7-9; Hooked on Books for ages 9-12; and Rapid Reads for 11-16-year-olds. There are 24 books in a pack that schools can keep to add to their libraries.

The books vary in reading level although all are within the band expected for the age group and the content is age appropriate and the Reading Journey can also be used in conjunction with the Accelerated Reader programme.

The Coven Tree package is the latest initiative to encourage reading for pleasure and follows the success of the Inspiration Book Awards.

The Awards cover a wide range of styles and levels,, bringing young readers together and helping them to find the right books for their tastes.

The Awards also include two competitions – Hooked on Books Quiz and the Video Book Trailer - along with a Celebration Event in June when all the winning authors and illustrators are invited to receive their awards from the children who have been voting.
