The first day of Sports Fest 2019 was full of sports, smiles and plenty of fun.
This year, Sports Fest is even better and bigger than previous years as a celebration of our title European City of Sport 2019, which aims to bring together communities with sports and educate the city about their health and well-being.
The 10-day long festival gives the city the opportunity to get active and receive free advice about their health and well-being, and how to juggle the two while still having fun.
Vodafone Gigafast Broadband who supports the European City of Sport, year along with Change Grow Live, It Takes Balls to Talk, Coventry HLS and Go CV were at the event today, with many more organisations and charities attending throughout the festival. Today was also takeover day for Year of Wellbeing and CV Life will be performing their takeover day this Friday, 16 August.
The day kicked off with running, agility training, parkour, ball sports and table tennis with other activities such as bungee trampolining and climbing on offer too. The Festival is set to be full of different sports each day.
Councillor Kamran Caan, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Sport, said: “It was great to have so many people together today. It gives Coventry’s communities a sense of unity. What’s even better is seeing people being active and enjoying themselves.
“Events like this are encouraging for people’s futures. It’s really important people know there are sports and wellness activities out there for all ages and abilities that can be enjoyed in our city for free.
“I'm excited for the rest of the week and can’t wait to see the rest of the sports and activities taking place and seeing important advice given to the city about how to look after themselves and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“I would highly encourage people to go to Broadgate and try one of the fun activities during Sports Fest.”
The 2012 Olympic Legacy event continues to be supported years on, by the Coventry Ambassador volunteers who will commit over 500 volunteer hours welcoming and informing visitors across the 10-day sports event.
Sports Fest in is Broadgate, Coventry, every day until 22 August 2019, 10am – 4pm.
The event is free, with additional activities like fair rides, bungee trampolines and climbing wall as charged activities. Sports Fest is also suitable for all ages and abilities.
