Win tickets to see Cressida Cowell at Coventry Cathedral

Published Friday, 23 August 2019

Coventry children are being challenged to write a spell and win a magical meeting with top children’s author Cressida Cowell

The writer of ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ is coming to Coventry on Tuesday 17 September, and Coventry Cathedral and Kenilworth Books have joined forces with Coventry Libraries to provide a great offer for young fans.

To celebrate Cressida’s latest series of books ‘The Wizards of Once’, there are three sets of three tickets to give away to children aged 8 – 12.

All they have to do is collect a special competition form from their local library and use their imagination to write a wizard’s spell or draw something a wizard might use.

Entries must be returned to local libraries by Sunday 8 September and the lucky three winners will then be named.

They will each receive three free tickets to go along to see Cressida in Coventry Cathedral on 17 September 6pm to 8pm.

The latest series of books by Cressida tells the story of a young boy wizard and a girl warrior who have been brought up to be sworn enemies. In their land, once upon a time, there used to be magic. Magical objects still exist, including a powerful magical sword and an enchanted feather.

Councillor Kevin Maton, Cabinet Member Responsible for Libraries, said: “We know how popular Cressida Cowell is with many of our younger library members, and as Children’s Laureate she is a fantastic advocate for promoting creativity and reading for pleasure.

“We have a fantastic range of her books in our libraries, and we are delighted to offer an opportunity for some of our local children to see her in person.”

The How to Train Your Dragon series has sold over 11 million copies worldwide, been translated into 38 languages and become a major film franchise.

Cressida said she is delighted to come to Coventry and Warwickshire.

She said: “Over the years I've had so many fantastic letters about my books from children in schools in this area, often sharing their creative stories and brilliant drawings!

“I am so looking forward to meeting these wonderful young creators, as well as the many adults who have supported my work, and telling them all about my new book, Wizards of Once: Knock Three Times!’“

Tickets can also be bought and are available online.
